ADC Chicago calls at discriminatiory column from Sun-Times columnist Steve Huntley. Urges community action and monitoring of Huntley's writing for possibel additional action to place him on ADC Chicago's Discrimination Watch List March 15, 2010 Chicago Sun-Times Dear Editor: Columnist Steve Huntley is up to his old tricks of bashing Arabs while serving as a longstanding apologist for Israel’s right wing policies. In his column (Palestinians use project to whip up Hate, Monday March 15), Huntley makes the absurd claim that the Palestinian opposition to the expansion of Jewish-only Israeli settlements in Arab East Jerusalem (illegal under international law and not recognized by every country in the world except Israel) is driven by “hatred.” As if confiscation of Arab citizens property, demolition of their homes and building apartheid wall on their land is not enough reasons to oppose the settlements. Huntley is ignoring the world-wide condemnation of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. The reality is that Israel’s right wing government has embarrassed every American by announcing its plan to expand settlements while Vice President Joseph Biden was seeking to restore confidence between Palestinians and Israelis in the hopes of kick-starting the stalled peace process. Instead of criticizing the right wing government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Huntley continues his demonization of the Palestinians while skewering the facts. Huntley’s repeated erroneous and hate-filled ranting serves to promote hatred rather than understanding. When will the Chicago Sun-Times start to publish the views and opinions of Chicagoland’s growing American Arab and Palestinian population? When will the Chicago Sun-Times stop publishing such hate-filled rhetoric that promotes conflict rather than resolution? When will the Chicago Sun-Times start to be fair? Sincerely
